About Family Office
Family office for financial services founders building newly formed alternative investment firm focused on multi-generational investing across the public and private markets. The firm is in the process of building a differentiated strategy investing in world-class liquid investment managers, with a primary focus on hedge funds and long-only equity strategies. The firm is seeking an experienced financial services operator with hedge fund-of-funds experience to own and scale all non-investment activities of the firm as it builds an institutional platform from the ground up. Compensation of base, discretionary bonus targeted at $500k plus 5% participation in the management fee capped at $1,000,000.
Role and Responsibilities:
The Chief Financial Officer and Chief Operating Officer will be responsible for managing all aspects of Finance, Operations, and Governance for the Firm, including all non-investment related activities. This role combines CFO-level ownership of financial matters with COO-level responsibility for firmwide operations, infrastructure, and vendor management. Specific responsibilities include:
Reports directly to Founder / CIO
Oversee all financial aspects of the Management Company, including budgeting & forecasting, reporting, tax, accounting, bank / cash management, insurance
Manage end-to-end fund administration, LP reporting, valuation, entity structuring, bank relationships / leverage facilities, fund specific tax matters
Responsible for making decisions to insource vs. outsource any of the functions across both the Management Company and fund level
Responsible for managing the relationships with all outsourced vendors
Provide fundraising support with operational DDQs/DD meetings with LPs
Ownership of institutional readiness, audit readiness and best-in-class LP transparency
Maintain portfolio level performance results and provide support documentation where necessary
Oversee other Operational and Administrative functions, such as Compliance (will initially serve as CCO and drive the RIA registration process), firmwide tech processes/infrastructure, managing outsourced PEO, managing IT/cyber and other major vendors
Oversight of firmwide risk management, including operational, counterparty, liquidity, and business continuity risk
Ownership of policies and procedures, disaster recovery, and business continuity planning
Primary internal counterpart to external legal counsel on fund formation, regulatory matters, side letters, and LP negotiations
As the firm scales, responsibilities will include building out internal staff on the Finance and Operations side of the business
Act as a strategic thought partner to the management team on fundraising due diligence efforts and overall Firm operations as needed
The role will heavily interact with the family offices of the founding members
Professional Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in finance, Accounting, or a related field; CPA preferred, but not a requirement
Proven experience in financial leadership roles within Fund of Funds or Hedge Funds, or similar alternative investment firms
Proven success building and maintaining relationships with outsourced vendors
Demonstrated experience overseeing the financial functions of both the funds and the Management Company
Expertise in all aspects of fund administration from an accounting and financial planning perspective
Excellent analytical, strategic, and problem-solving skills
Proven success in supporting fundraising activities, including overall portfolio and performance analyses and interacting with LPs
Proven success bringing high-caliber functional expertise with regard to major financial events, managing capital requirements, budget planning, and managing spend to the operating plan while achieving business goals in a dynamic, rapidly growing environment
Adept with all compliance policies and procedures; experience driving the RIA registration process preferred
